IN TRANSIT: A BALINESE LAYOVER

I arrived in Bali for a 30 hour layover on my way to Beijing. Because I was only in Bali for a short layover, I ended up staying in a very touristy part of Bali, Kuta Beach. To be honest I didn't really expect too much, before arriving I already had the expectation that Kuta beach was going to be a very touristy and not at all a very cultural destination. Turns out its true...

A quick walk down Kuta beach was all I needed to see how touristy this area of Bali really was. The locals are prepared for this and so they constantly bombard you with sales propositions. I went for a short walk down the beach to check it out and someone tried to sell me something 3 or 4 times before I even made it to the water.

The beach is also covered with stalls that run all the way down and turns the nice relaxing area into more of a marketplace.

To be fair, I only spent 1 day here and maybe an extended trip could be great. I have been told by other travellers to check out the Gili Islands. I would really love to come back and visit Ubud as well, I have seen a lot of beautiful photos of trips from friends of mine who have been.

On the next trip I think I'll definitely stay away from Kuta beach and try to get a more cultural experience.
